Buddy
Davis designed custom sportfishing yachts that helped define the
"Carolina" style. Those flared bows and rakish lines are exerting
a growing influence across the industry on both custom and production
yachts. The company, now called Buddy Davis Boatworks, has rebounded since
1993 and the traumas of the yacht tax. Under new owners, it offers
a broad line of custom and semi-custom boats at competitive prices
including the new 78-foot sportfisherman pictured above. This boat
is available in models ranging in size from 74ft to 78ft and with
a wide variety of options. For the sake of tidiness we will talk
about the 78.
The Buddy Davis Boatworks 78 Custom Sportfisherman offers a four stateroom,
three head, enclosed flying bridge layout and could be finished
with either DD/DD 6V92TA 1450hp or, as they become available, DD/MTU
l6V 200 Series engines at 1760hp.
Slightly smaller variations on this model of Buddy Davis have been built
and refined since 1987, and they have established a reputation as
one of the finest rough water boats in competition fishing with
superior ability to pound into a head sea. For the yachtsman who
wants comfort on a long distance run along with power and speed,
the enclosed, air conditioned flybridge is the only way to run with
cruising speeds over 30 knots. Expectations are high for even greater
performance with tomorrow's lighter performance engines.
Standard features aboard the Buddy Davis .78 include Hynautic power assisted
steering, aluminum 3,000 gallons capacity, electronic engine synchroniza,
single lever controls, freshwater washdown, stainless transom fish
box liner stainless lined cockpit freezer, large tuna door, Oberdorfer
bronze gear pump oil change system with 55 gallon oil storage, teak
coverboards, teak toe rails, teak bridge trim and helm bubble, teak
interior trim, Awlgrip 2000 exterior topcoat, white Awlgrip engine
room, Cruisair direct expansion air-conditioning system, central
sea chest for all raw water' Nibral props, DC vapor proof lighting
in lazarette and forward bilges and stainless steel rudders.
She comes with a utility room and pantry with washer and dryer and
a day head on the mezzanine. The master stateroom is done in teak
veneer and is large enough for a king size bed and twin master heads.
Two guest staterooms and the crew quarters follow the compainionway
for ward. The salon is as elegant as one might expect from a custom
yacht of this size and calibre.
